Today I learned that all released balloons fall back to earth or water and become litter.  This litter can harm or kill wildlife through ingestion or entanglement and can cause power outages when they touch power lines.  I pledge not to release balloons myself, or as part of an organized event, and instead use one of many alternatives suggested by the Prevent Balloon Litter campaign during events to celebrate and remember.
