Have you ever wondered how the AVCon maids get such a fantastic job? They apply same as everybody else of course! If you were looking to be a maid (or butler, we need those too!) then here's the place to apply.
This year we’re embarking on newer and more exciting events at the Ichigo Maid Cafe and because of this we will need a very large dose of enthusiasm for our team. If you're a great person and have a generally happy go lucky personality the Maid Cafe wants you!
The Maid cafe has dancers, entertainers, maids, butlers, stage hosts and more! There is something for everyone!
What are you waiting for? AVCon 2017 is waiting for your application!
Maid/ButlerMaids and Butlers will be in front of house or back of house. It is their duty to take orders, bring out food to the customers, perform maid charms and to interact with customers. You also may have the opportunity to perform a dance, this is not a requirement.
Entertainer/PerformerThis role requires you to learn a dance. You will also play games on stage, participate in Q&A sessions and compete in competitions with other maids/butlers and guests.
Stage HostStage hosts will commentate the stage events, introduce performances and interact with the entertainers/performers. Great banter and stage personalities are a must!
Stage HandYou'll be helping with the set up of the various stage shows and performances within the Maid Cafe. Technical know-how is a plus but not a requirement. You will be moving various equipment and ensuring the stage is clear when there are no performances.
You are not required to buy a ticket as a AVCon Volunteer.
When will we find out if we have been accepted?
Applicants are scheduled to be notified of the status of their application in April 2017
What do we get for working in the Maids Cafe?
All Maids will be provided with a free T-Shirt and lunch on the weekend, early access to the convention, valuable workplace experience as well as great memories and other cool perks.
Please also keep in mind that your performance will be assessed and failure to complete your shifts without valid reason will negatively impact future volunteer opportunities within AVCon.
Do I have to do anything before the convention to prepare?
Yes, firstly you will have to attend the aforementioned training session and participate. Secondly, the AVCon maid café prides itself on our presentation to the public and our ability to replicate what makes authentic Japanese maid cafés so popular, as part of this we may require maids to purchase their uniforms if they are accepted as part of the maid café. You may be able to use a pre-existing maid's uniform that you already own, but this is up to the discretion of the head of maids cafe.
Lastly there will be a few meet-ups and other fun events which you are encouraged to come to and are considered vital to working as a maid at AVCon, so please keep this in mind when applying.
What happens if something comes up and I can no longer be a maid?
If you are accepted as a maid and then for whatever reason something comes up which prevents you from working on AVCon weekend, just tell us prior to the event and we will sort it out, not an issue.
I'm also doing X, Y & Z role at AVCon, can I work in the Maids Cafe?
It depends, for example ceremonies team members are welcome to work in the cafe as their work shouldn't overlap with being a maid, but general volunteers wouldn't have the time. It's best to ask your relevant committee member, or the head of Maids Cafe first.
I still have more questions!
Shoot an email to the head of Maid's Cafe Phong Hoàng (Phong.email@example.com) or the Volunteer Coordinator Ripley Newbold (firstname.lastname@example.org)
