CRDM Student Survey (August, 2017)
Colloquium time should be structured as a:
Workshop to share faculty and student research and receive feedback. In this case, work would be distributed before colloquium time and participants would be divided into clusters (rhetorical studies, media studies, etc.).
Keep it basically the same: crowd-sourced topics and presentations
A mixture of the two
Colloquium should be optional or replaced with other options to fulfill the professional credits requirement ( more shadowing opportunities, etc.)
Incoming students should be assigned temporary faculty advisors/mentors based on their research interests. This would be in addition to being advised by the director of CRDM.
I don't care
If a small amount of additional funds were made available to students, it would be most beneficial to
Provide nominal extra travel funding for everyone (maybe $40)
Provide additional 6-8 $1000 travel awards to applicants
CRDM should find a way to fund student research travel (outside of conferences; e.g. archives).
