The purpose of the research:
The purpose of this survey is to understand more about charity shops as workplaces and community spaces for a range of different people.
We want to hear about your experiences in charity retail, working with charity shop staff, volunteers, and the public. We are especially interested in your experiences with accessibility, disability and vulnerability in charity retail.
The survey is part of a larger project that aims to promote sustainability and equity in the second-hand economy through networking, knowledge-exchange, and upskilling.
The project is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council Impact Acceleration Account at Cardiff University.
Why have you been invited to take part:
You have been invited to take part in the survey because you are 18+ and are or have been involved in charity retail.
Do I have to take part?
Taking part in the survey is entirely your choice. You can stop and exit the survey at any time, without giving a reason. You can also skip any questions you do not wish to answer.
At the end of the survey, you will be able to confirm if you want us to use your answers in the research project.
What will taking part involve?
We will ask you to describe and reflect on your experiences working in charity retail. We will ask about your experiences and views on accessibility, disability and vulnerability in your time in charity shops.
The survey will take about 20 minutes to complete.
What will happen to the data given in this survey?
Your answers will be anonymous. Participants will not be identified in any write-up, report, publication or presentation arising from this project. We will change any information in your answers that could be used to identify you or others.
Your personal data will be stored securely and indefinitely on Cardiff University computing.
The answers you share about your experiences will be used in research publications and toolkits to help inform future practice. The finished toolkit will be made freely and publicly available online, and shared with our network of practitioners, researchers and policymakers.
What if there is a problem?
For this survey, we use the social model of disability and the term ‘disabled people’. While some people prefer 'people with a disability', we take a disability justice and rights perspective here. This helps us to focus on understanding and breaking down barriers in society that disabled people experience.
We
also use the term 'vulnerable people'. Our use of the term vulnerable
people comes from legislation for health and social care (The Care Act 2014), and refers to people who may be more
likely to be at risk of harm, and therefore require a particular duty of
care from others around them. Vulnerability can be due to a range of
factors, from age, to disability, to mental health problems, or to
stressors accessing shelter, heating, or food.
Thank you for considering taking part in this survey.
I have read the above Privacy Statement and understand the purposes of the research, the information that will be collected and how my personal data will be used and stored. I agree to take part in this survey.
