When you adopt a pet you are making a long term commitment (up to 10 to 20 years).  Your pet will soon begin to depend on you for all of its needs.  The formed between a person and a pet is formed in a very short period of time.  We urge you to think about the commitment you are making.  An animal who has known love of a human does not do well in a cage, left in a backyard, or on the street.  Also, that bond is not easily switched to another person should you decide that you no longer want to keep this animal.  These poor souls can then become depressed and even ill when someone they love leaves them.
