Preserving the Harvest Registration
Join the Greater Franklin Food Council and UMaine Cooperative Extension Master Food Preserver Abbie Perry to learn how to preserve locally grown food. This 8 session cohort will be maxed at 10 participants who will preserve 8-10 crops throughout the cohort with a goal of putting up 50 lbs of food for your home pantry. Abbie will lead and teach participants how to pressure can, water bath can, and freeze many different crops over the summer and fall season. We will also review other methods of food preservation, such as dehydration, fermentation and root cellar storage.

Classes will be held every other Tuesday starting in July at the West Farmington Grange. Classes will start at 5:30 each session. All materials such as jars and freezer bags, plus produce, will be provided to participants. We will be focusing on preserving food from Franklin County farms and will supplement with produce from other farms in Maine.

The cost for the cohort will be on a sliding scale from $100-$400. We have received sponsorships to fully fund two SNAP participants. Payment is by cash or check made out to Greater Franklin Food Council. Stop by our booth at the Fiddlehead Festival to drop off payment or mail to GFFC, 323 Fairbanks Road, Farmington, ME 04938. What is your experience with preserving food? *
The GFFC is striving to make this workshop accessible for all folks in our community. A sliding scale is used to encourage people to pay according to their available resources. Those with greater financial privilege contribute more, allowing those with less access, to pay according to their means. Please select the amount you are able to pay for participation in the cohort.  *
