This is an annual FLAG award of a FLAG certificate of excellence and up to $500 per year to a K-12 student, educator of K-12 students, mental health professional who works with K-12 students, or another community member who also serves K-12 students in some manner who has gone above and beyond to support the social-emotional needs of the gifted.

The scholarship winner will be announced each year at the annual FLAG conference (starting in 2019), chosen per criteria set by the FLAG awards committee as chaired by the membership committee chair and will be for use in continuing the efforts of the recipient to promote support of the social emotional needs of the gifted. The funds will reimburse the recipient for purchasing materials, attending trainings, or otherwise promoting the mission the applicant describes in their application.

Dr. James Thurman Webb, known as most in the gifted world as "Jim," passed away in 2018. Dr. Webb was a well-known author and publisher who wrote and edited numerous books and articles and was best known to the gifted education circuit as the founder of Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG). After retiring as an Associate Dean and professor from Wright State University (Ohio), he started the publishing company, Great Potential Press, through which he published dozens of books on different topics in the gifted field. He was a pioneer in the field of social and emotional needs of the gifted. He is the recipient of many awards for his work, including the SENG Lifetime Achievement Award, and he supported the work of FLAG and other state gifted associations. We are honored to announce the creation of this new annual award to honor Dr. Webb's contributions to the field of gifted education.

The application is due by June 1, 2019.
The recipient is expected to present a short presentation about the work they are doing at the FLAG annual conference awards ceremony in Brevard County, FL in October 2019 (Oct 11 or 12, date/time TBA). The winner and up to two family members will have free registration for the FLAG conference for the day of the awards ceremony.
