On 21 September 2020, governments came together to adopt the UN75 Political Declaration, which includes 12 commitment areas for action by member states and the broader UN system. The Declaration also calls on the Secretary-General to report back before the end of the seventy-fifth session of the General Assembly “with recommendations to advance our common agenda and to respond to current and future challenges.”

This report is expected to trigger a subsequent process for strengthening multilateralism as the world begins to slowly emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of preparations for the report, the Executive Office of the Secretary-General is leading a consultative exercise with member states and other stakeholders, including civil society.

Anticipating this time of creativity and reinvention for multilateralism, the Coalition for the UN We Need (C4UN, formerly the UN2020 Campaign) has developed a program of “Multilateral Innovation Hubs.” Engaging with partners from around the world, these Innovation Hubs will provide a space for collaboration to advance progressive proposals that seek to strengthen the UN system.

A range of different activities are possible, from small workshops and expert discussions to large public meetings to targeted campaigning efforts.

The Multilateral Innovation Hubs will:
- Promote the work of partner organizations by supporting dialogue and advocacy for campaigns and initiatives related to UN reform and global governance.
- Be a platform for facilitating, generating and promoting thought leadership.
- Facilitate partnerships and collaborations for advancing new and emerging reform proposals.
