The Foothills Voices Project is a writing and research course for novice or amateur writers, aimed at creating authentic nonfiction about and in the voices of everyday residents of Southern Appalachia. Completed works will be compiled into a professionally published anthology. To be considered for this course, please fill out the application form in its entirety, and submit a prose writing sample of no more than 250 words (approximately one typewritten, double-spaced page). Applications are due March 28, 2018. Tuition of $100 is due upon acceptance to the class and must be paid in full by April 12. Class size is limited to 15-20 students. Selection will be based on instructors' evaluation of applicants' submitted writing sample.

Course structure: Classes will meet four times in April and May (April 12 and 26, May 10 and 24), then monthly thereafter on the third Thursday through the end of the year. Classes take place 6-8 p.m. at the Blount County Public Library. Classes will feature discussion, library tours, peer critique, hands-on research and guest speakers.

Requirements: All students must be proficient in the use of computers, specifically internet searching and MS Word or Google Docs. A Blount County Public Library card in good standing is required of all attendees. Card applications may be obtained at the library, 508 N. Cusick, Maryville, TN 37804.
