Sign if you want the employer to maintain the current telework arrangement and flexible approach to hybrid work at IRCC. This petition asks that the employer rejects the rigid, one size fits all, top-down policy directive of 3 Day Return to Work announced on May 1 and took effect on September 9, 2024.
Rationale
We have prepared this petition to ask our employer to respect a flexible approach to work at IRCC. We are asking the employer to:
- Maintain the 2 days in office for those who currently have such work arrangement
- Respect exemptions on telework rights
- Provide adequate accommodations for those who opt to work in office 3 days/week
This petition is a follow-up on our initial note to the DM stating clearly our members’ opposition to the top-down, a one-size fits-all model. Our members overwhelmingly support flexible work arrangements given that they all have unique needs. Our work environment was radically transformed during the global pandemic and our members adjusted to the changed work environment with little support from the employer; continuing to serve clients and Canadians.
Our members are passionate about their work, whether they work from an office in the National Capital Region, a home office in Halifax, or in a small community on the west coast. A flexible work arrangement ensures a diverse public service, representing all regions and communities. Telework also results in the distribution of economic benefits across communities, rather than concentrating wealth in larger cities.
We believe that on-site work environment would meet health and safety standards or uphold the directive of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
We strongly believe the 3 Day RTO does not respect the rights of our members and poses serious challenges to their mental and physical health, demanding unrealistic and unfair adjustments to their lives.
To continue to deliver a great service, we ask that our employer does not change the current flexible telework arrangement for our members at IRCC.
We ask for an exemption to any changes to the Directive on the Prescribed Presence in the Workplace increasing mandatory in-office days, so that IRCC can offer flexible telework arrangements to its employees according to their needs.
The petition is sponsored by IRCC Locals representing members of ACFO, CAPE, PSAC, and PAFSO.
