G.E.M.S. 2018 Site Coordinator Application Form
Are you enthusiastic about math and science? Do you want to make a difference in a young girl’s life? If you answered yes, then become a G.E.M.S. Mentor!

***ABOUT G.E.M.S.***

Girls Excelling in Math and Science (G.E.M.S.) of Prince George’s County, MD is an initiative that seeks to engage, empower, and retain girls' interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), while enhancing their skills and capabilities in STEM-related disciplines.

G.E.M.S. aims to help increase the participation of women in science and engineering fields by starting where it counts – middle school. Middle school is a critical stage for young girls where interest in math and science often fades or can be discouraged.

G.E.M.S. offers an after-school enrichment program at Prince George's County middle schools. Our after-school enrichment program allows middle school girls to explore STEM applications through hands-on, interactive activities. Through the after-school enrichment program, middle school girls

o explore various STEM disciplines (biology, computer science, astronomy, atmospheric sciences, mathematics, engineering, etc.)

o build confidence in math and science skills

o learn about women contributions to STEM fields

o participate in field trips to math and science educational and research centers, for example, Koshland Science Museum, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, National Museum of Natural History, Baltimore Aquarium and the University of Maryland

We are seeking interns to serve as a site coordinator. The site coordinator is invaluable to the G.E.M.S. organization! G.E.M.S. site coordinators devote five to six hours weekly to G.E.M.S. by

o coordinating G.E.M.S. student mentors and activities for the after-school enrichment program at Prince George's middle schools

o facilitating G.E.M.S. bi-weekly training meetings for G.E.M.S. student mentors

o communicating and interacting directly with the Director of G.E.M.S.
