Emmet Otter's Jug-band Christmas

Judy, Nina, and James are thrilled to be directing one of their "bucket list" shows. We all enjoyed this family friendly favorite as children and are very appreciative that we were granted pre-licensing rights to direct this gem. There are a wide variety of roles for any age, gender, ethnicity. We need actors who can act, act and sing, rock out for the Nightmare Band, do light gymnastics, tap dance, play instruments, and just want to have fun! (You do not need to be able to do all of those things...there are many roles available for many different abilities!) Oh...and I forgot to mention...PUPPETS! Many roles will be played by puppets! (Don't worry, we have people to help teach puppeteering!)

Rehearsal Information

September: We will call select groups a few times to work on certain scenes. (based upon your availability)

October: Sundays - Wednesdays

November: Sundays - Wednesdays (Thanksgiving Week: Sunday rehearsal; pending availability; No Rehearsal Monday-Wednesday)

For the Jug-Band (Wendell, Harvey, Charlie), Nightmare Band (Chuck, Howard, Scatfish, Fred, Stan), Squirrel Quartet (Jiffy, Nutella, Skippy, and Tiny) and George & Melissa Rabbit- We are not locked down to a specific age, we will be looking for a group that looks and sounds "right" together- so we may cast them as 14-18 yr olds or 40-60 yr olds.

Ma Otter- (female/30-60) Ma sings some beautiful ballads, some silly folksy songs. Great role for a versatile singer. Human, one scene as a puppet.

Emmet Otter- (male/15-25) Emmet also sings a variety of songs. Human, one scene as a puppet.

Doc Bullfrog (any gender/40 and up) Doc is a larger than life puppet. He serves as the narrator of the story.

Mayor Fox (male/25 and up/human) He is the town mayor and has a huge personality. Some solos within ensemble numbers.

Gretchen Fox (female/25 and up/human) She is the mayor's snooty wife. She has a solo and is a big personality.

Mrs. Mink (female/25 and up/human) She has a beautiful solo and other ensemble numbers. She is sophisticated, but not over the top; owns the music store.

Yancy Woodchuck (male/adult or older teen/puppet) Yancy is the comedic relief, but is also kind and wise. He has a wonderfully silly solo- Barbecue.

Madame Squirrel- (female/20 and up/human-with an impressive squirrel tail!)The eccentric mother and leader of the acrobatic squirrels.

Jiffy, Nutella, Tiny, Skippy- (any gender/8 and up/puppets) -4 separate roles. They serve as a transition device throughout the play, trying to find a Christmas tree, and they sing the song "Trust" with Emmet, in which, they each have a solo. LIGHT TUMBLING REQUIRED

Melissa and George Rabbit(s)- (one female/one male; 8 and up/puppets and human combo) These two are a great brother/sister TAP Dancing duo!

Hetty Muskrat- (female/30 and up/human) Ma’s good friend. Gives good advice and truly cares about Ma and Emmet.

Penelope Possum- (female/30 and up/human and puppet) Piano Player preferred, but not required.The crusty but secretly sweet talent show accompanist who plays the piano.

Wendell Porcupine- (male, but would consider female/teen-adult/human) Emmet's energetic best friend. (Plays the jug- no experience required!)

Harvey Beaver- (male, but would consider female/teen-adult/human) The quiet, grounded washboard/kazoo player (no experience required!)

Charlie Muskrat-(male, but would consider female/teen-adult/human) The upbeat cigar box banjo player (no experience required!)

Chuck Stoat- (male, but would consider female/teen-adult/human) Leader of the Nightmare band. Pretend plays the keyboards. Mean, snarky, rough around the edges.

Nightmare Band: Fred Lizard and Stan Weasel (humans); Scatfish and Howard Snake (puppets) (any gender; teen-adult)

Other. We have a vast variety of roles that require ensemble singing, puppetry, or just fun acting.
