Women and Gender Stakeholder Group at UNDRR - Join our group and help to develop our community
In 2018, UNDRR set up the "UNDRR Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism" (UNDRR-SEM) to leverage the convening and advocacy powers of the MGoS for the integration of disaster risk reduction into the broader 2030 Agenda.

The Women and Gender Stakeholder Group (WGSG) is one of the 15 groups coordinated under the Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM) engaging in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The membership of the WGSG is open to any gender advocates and organizations working on the intersection of gender equality and disaster risk reduction. Currently the group has grown considerably as a  testimony of the increased interest of the feminists and women’s rights organizations to engage and be part of disaster risk reduction, especially now that humanity is experiencing increased impact of disasters on lives, infrastructure, basic social services and economies. The group is convened by the Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO) and Action Aid.

Women, girls, people of color, Indigenous Peoples, people living in poverty, people living with disabilities, non-binary persons, and other groups facing marginalization bear the brunt of disasters, be it climate induced, health, or economic disasters, yet their voices and leadership are systematically eliminated in the formal decision-making processes. This community aims to bring together feminists, gender advocates and stakeholder to actively engage in UNDRR processes.

We are currently in the process to strengthening our stakeholder group. If you have any questions regarding our collective work or how to use this list, please contact mwanahamisi@wedo.org or claudia@wedo.org
