The NFL’s new policy on the national anthem says players must “stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem," but also that players won't be required to be on the field for the anthem - they could come on after the anthem is played. Teams, not players, would be fined for any violations, and teams also can develop “work rules” for players taking the field and not standing. The new rules have generated controversy among players. With training camps starting in July, and the first preseason game in early August, is the NFL's new anthem policy a step forward or a step back.
