Coleman Club Odyssey of the Mind, 2019-20
The HSA is proud to sponsor a Coleman Odyssey of the Mind program in Spring 2020. The goal is to launch a pilot program here at Coleman this year, but participate at the regional level next year, if there is enough interest and enthusiasm.
The Odyssey of the Mind Program (OotM) is a creative, problem-solving program where team members work together to solve a predefined long term problem and present their solution to the problem at a regional competition. The program runs September through February and ends when teams compete regionally. For our purposes, this year, we will have presentations (not a competition) from the team(s) in May/June 2020 at the school level.
Team members will apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics (age appropriate topics and expectations). We hope to have groups of 5-7 students who will work together approximately 60-90 minutes a week or every other week. (Times and locations will be determined by the team, based on coaches‘ and participants’ availability). For this year, each team will essentially have two coaches who will help guide their team through the OotM sessions. Adult coaches are parent volunteers who are willing to participate and join.
We are looking forward to establishing an enriching parent-run program which will create exciting, educational opportunities in a team building environment!
Program Registration is $25.00 per student. We will have an informational meeting as well as registration for parents on January 17, 2020 at 7:30pm in the Coleman library.
