Language matters: How we talk about infant feeding with clients, colleagues and the community
The Tampa Bay Breastfeeding Task Force’s fifth annual conference theme, “Language matters: How we talk about infant feeding with clients, colleagues and the community,” seeks to explore equitable and effective communication about lactation and human milk feeding. We invite researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to submit abstracts for sessions that address how lactation advocates and skilled lactation care providers can equitably and effectively speak about infant feeding with either 1) clients, 2) their colleagues, or 3) the community at large. We welcome topics from a wide range of perspectives, including (but not limited to) inclusiveness and cultural respect, interprofessional collaboration, the WHO Code, avoiding conflicts of interest, communication with lactating clients, communication about infant feeding online or via social media, and others.

We ask that abstracts:
• Identify whether the proposed topic will address communication with 1) clients, 2) colleagues, or 3) the community,
• Describe any challenges of equitable and effective communication about infant feeding,
• Describe how lactation advocates and skilled lactation care providers can more equitably and effectively communicate about infant feeding

Abstracts should be 100-300 words long and include a title, full name, organizational affiliation, address, and contact email. Abstracts should be submitted by November 20, 2019. In addition to completing this form, please email your resume or CV to tbbreastfeeding@gmail.com.

The annual conference will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County. CEUs are available.
