Vanhoover Pony Expo Musician Application
Thank you for your interest in performing at Vanhoover Pony Expo. Please fill in the details below, and we will be in touch with you by sometime around the end of November. Also remember to read the description to each question as it may clear up some confusion (or make it worse, in which case please send any questions you may have to musicians@vanhoover.ca).

Note that no prior performance experience is required to have a slot at Vanhoover Pony Expo (though it certainly helps); just show us that you can put on an awesome Pony set that attendees will enjoy!

If you are accepted, we will ask for your bio and logo, however you are free to provide it here as well if you'd like. If you would like to make changes to your application after submission, please email musicians@vanhoover.ca.

Last day to apply: November 24, 2019
Email address *
Legal Name *
Your answer
Discord Handle *
If you are accepted, you will be invited to the VanhooverPE Discord server and given the role of 2020 musician. Example: PonyPerformer#1234
Your answer
Do you have a valid passport/other form of international ID (ex: NEXUS card, EID/EDL, etc.)? *
Fan Name/Alias *
Your performer name (exactly as you want it shown in promotional material).
Your answer
Badge Disclosure *
Here's the tough part: Vanhoover is still a small convention, and while we can give discounted badges to musicians, we unfortunately cannot afford to give free badges as of this year to anyone, including staff (even our Chair has to pay for his own badge). However, we can offer badges at a pretty steep discount to musicians at $20 CAD (approx. $15 USD). We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and we hope that you will still consider applying to perform at VaPE 2020.
Required
Music Style *
What setup do you have? If your performance requires instruments, please choose "Acoustic". If you are using music on a CD or a laptop/controller (even if you plan on singing/rapping to it) please choose "EDM/DJ".
How long will you need to set up?
If you need longer than around five minutes to set up your equipment between acts, please note that here.
Your answer
Additional Badges?
If your group (either EDM or Acoustic) has more than one performer, please list the legal names and preferred badge/stage names for any additional performers in your group.
Your answer
Tag Team/B2B/Canadian Superband Requests
Please list the name of any act(s) you wish to share a time-slot with. Note that this is not required, and the other act(s) must have your name on their application as well. Multiple accepted acts sharing a timeslot may have a longer allotted set time than that which would be granted to an individual act (i.e. we'll probably combine your set times to accommodate the additional acts).
Your answer
Performance Experience
Please list any applicable performance experience you have, if any. It can be online or real life, at previous conventions, parties, or even radio stations! Did you have a set at an album release party on PonyvilleFM? List that here! Did you play a set at a renegade stage at a convention? List that here (and tell us what convention)! Supporting links with video are awesome too. Note that a lack of experience will NOT count against your application.
Your answer
Genre(s) *
Please list any genres you intend to play. Note that the answers to this question may be featured in promotional material.
Your answer
How much Pony content will you feature in your performance? *
"Pony content" includes (but is not limited to) original songs inspired by the show and/or the fandom, as well as covers, remixes, and songs from the show and/or fandom or songs featuring Pony samples or vocal chops.
Primary Audition Link *
This is where it really counts! Please post a link to either: a previous performance (video or audio), a 30-60 minute sample mix for DJs (can be on Mixcloud, MediaFire, MEGA, etc.), or a link to your musician portfolio for acoustic or any singing acts (can also be a previous performance, a Bandcamp link, etc.). This should ideally be the one key demo that best shows off your skills and the genre(s) you intend to perform. Any extra links can be submitted in the question below.
Your answer
Social Media/Supporting Performance Links
Please post any supporting links to your social media that may show off your performance abilities. Examples include YouTube, Mixcloud, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Facebook, etc. You may even paste links to additional mixes or performances if you would like. There is no limit to how many links or social media profiles you can submit (except for Twitter, which can be entered in the next question below).
Your answer
Twitter Profile
Please provide your Twitter handle or a link to your Twitter profile (if you have one) to be used for promotional purposes if you are selected.
Your answer
What is the maximum amount of time you are able to perform for? *
Which nights are you available to perform? (Please select all that apply) *
We will do our best to accommodate based on your availability, however being available for both nights will increase your chances of being selected.
Required
Is your set safe and fun for all ages? If not, why? *
Note that this will not count against your application, however if your set contains language (for example) you may be given a set time that is later rather than earlier. Please list any elements in your set that may not be family-friendly (example: My set may contain PG-13 language).
Your answer
What equipment are you bringing (including any instruments)? *
For example: if you have an electric guitar, will you be bringing your own amp as well? This helps our A/V team plan their audio setup.
Your answer
What equipment/connections will you need? *
We will provide microphones (wired, wireless, lavalier (lapel), and headset) as well as speakers. However, A/V would like to know how many of what your specific act needs. For example: how many microphones do you think you will need?, what connection does your controller use (XLR, RCA, etc.)?, will you need any monitors?, do your instruments require any special audio equipment that you are not already providing (such as a guitar amp)?, etc.
Your answer
Your Logo (link)
This is optional at this point in the application and not having one will not count against you. However if you do not provide one, we will ask for it if you are accepted.
Your answer
Your Bio
If you have one! If you don't, feel free to write a short blurb about yourself. This is optional at this point in the application and not having one will not count against you. However if you do not provide one, we will ask for it if you are accepted.

Lastly, we need a catchy name for our dance...
This is optional. Many MLP conventions have some kind of cool name for their dance/concert (for example EFNW has Ponystock, BABSCon has NEIGHhem, HarmonyCon has Coltchella, etc.). Do you have any suggestions on what to call Vanhoover Pony Expo's dance? Not leaving a suggestion will NOT count against your application, and you may absolutely send any future suggestions to musicians@vanhoover.ca.
