Past examples of SASCO’s efforts include having been the first home of the “Farm to School” program, the creation of “Local First” until it became it’s own separate organization, facilitating the drafting of Durango’s regional Clean Energy Action Plan (CEAP), as well as, contributing to the drafting of La Plata County’s 2001 Comprehensive Plan. Currently, SASCO focuses on adding critical capacity, resource support and expertise to the campaign to elect a progressive majority to the La Plata Electric Association’s Board of Directors. Additionally, we have launched a Durango Chapter of Green Drinks that acts as a hub for green minded individuals in our community. As our Board Membership expands, we are excited to adopt new projects and initiatives that address regional sustainability.
New Board Member Outreach: We are currently seeking additional board members to strengthen existing efforts. These new board members will help identify ways that we can more effectively tackle current initiatives and bring vision and capacity to additional sustainability efforts that we can address in our region. Board Members are asked to serve a three-year term. The SASCO Board is both a governing and working board. This position requires a commitment of 4-10 hours each month.
Board Member Responsibilities:● Attend two hour monthly Board Meetings. Currently these meetings take place on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7:30p.m.● Assist with Green Drinks execution and attend Green Drinks which is held on the last Thursday of every month from 5 to 6:30PM at Carvers. ● Assist with LPEA Election candidate support (January-May)● Identify, pitch and develop new project ideas as time and capacity allow● Contribute time and resources to Board projects, as able and appropriate
