Child to Parent Abuse Training (Practitioners) - 21 September
Adfam has been funded by Comic Relief to support people affected by abusive behaviour from their drug or alcohol using children, and to train and empower them to go on to help their peers – other parents and guardians. Abusive behaviour from children is a subject that has often not had the attention it deserves – yet we know from research that thousands of parents and guardians around the country are affected by it.

As part of the project we are also training the practitioners who work with this group.

Please note that completing does not guarantee a place, however a confirmation email will be sent to you with three working days.

Project objectives
• To reduce the harm experienced by parents facing abusive behaviour from their substance-using children; to improve their understanding of the topic and to help them feel safer and less isolated.
• To train parents who have or are facing abusive behaviour from their substance-using children to support other parents in a similar situation.
• To increase the awareness and understanding of practitioners working with those who experience child to parent abuse so that they are better able to support parents facing this issue.
What we mean by…
CHILD: Includes adult children (those over the age of 18)

PARENT: Includes grandparents, kinship carers, step-parents, foster parents etc.

ABUSE: Includes physical, emotional, financial abuse and coercive control

Purpose of the training days
We are running two free training days in London. The first (on 21 September) is for practitioners who wish to learn more about the topic.

The second (on 20 October) is for family members with experience of abusive behaviour from their substance-using child, who wish to be trained as peer befrienders so that they can go on to support others experiencing this issue.
