There are 2 Bands, 2 String Orchestras & 1 Chorus
Current 7th graders: *If you're already in band or orchestra, let me know if you want to change instruments for next year. *If you're not already in band or orchestra, see me to discuss.
Current 6th graders: *If you're in band in elementary school, your current music teacher will confirm your skills. You don't have to stay with your current instruments. Most kids change to a "grown-up" instrument when they get to 7th grade.
• Am I committing to choosing a music elective? No, but if you do choose a music elective I will know which class level to put you in.• What if I don’t have any experience?A minimum 1 year experience is required for band or orchestra, but that experience can be on any instrument.• Is there an audition? No, see information above for your current grade level.• Does the school have an instrument I can use?Yes, but…... We do not have any violins, flutes, clarinets, trumpets or alto sax to rent. We also request a one-time rental fee of $40 to help maintain the instrument.• Where else can I get an instrument? Please do NOT purchase an instrument online unless you are an instrument specialist. It is my experience that most instruments purchased online will cost you more to fix than if you just rent one from a local music store. There are no instrument rental stores in Milpitas but Fremont and San Jose have a lot of music stores .• What if I want to change instruments?Indicate that on the form.• Do you offer a guitar or piano class? No, we do not offer guitar or piano lessons in any of our music department. However I am auditioning for 2 piano accompanists for the Chorus class. Auditions will be held Monday, March 26, 2018; 6-8pm; TRMS Music Room. Applicants will be contacted directly with more information.
I urge you to consider playing one of the following “grown up” instruments: Band - oboe, bass clarinet, bassoon, tenor sax, baritone sax, french horn, euphonium, tubaOrchestra - viola, cello, bass
