Remote Learning Instruction Request
Parents may request remote learning for students that fall into one or more of the following categories;
(1) those with health conditions (medically fragile and/or high risk)
(2) those who live with individuals who have health conditions (medically fragile and/or high risk)

This option will be available to any student during the mandated time that they might be in quarantine at home due to COVID-19 exposure and/or a COVID-19 diagnosis.

Students choosing Remote Learning instruction will be enrolled on a grading period-by-grading period basis. Once a student is enrolled in the Remote Learning only option, that will be the student’s placement through the end of the grading period. Families will have the opportunity to decide to return to in-person instruction prior to the start of the next grading period.
2020-21 Grading Periods:
         1st Quarter: Aug 19 – Oct 16                 3rd Quarter: Jan 4 – Mar 12
         2nd Quarter: Oct 19 – Dec 18                 4th Quarter: Mar 15 – May 27

Rutland Grade School will continue to use its standards-based curriculum at each grade level as the foundation for both In-Person and Remote Learning instruction and will work to ensure there is as much continuity of information and materials as possible for both In-Person and Remote Learning students.  It should be noted that In-Person and Remote Learning instruction are not the same and as a result the experiences of students may not be exactly the same.

The State Superintendent has determined that Remote Learning must ensure at least 5 clock hours of instruction or school work for each student. Please note Remote Learning now includes more requirements from the State of IL and higher expectations moving forward.  Students enrolled in Remote Learning will have the same requirements as students in-person for their attendance(visible presence on video conference), grades, and work completion.

All students participating in Remote Learning instruction will be expected to follow their daily class schedule virtually via Google Meet and/or Zoom (livestream) and obtain class resources and assignments through Google Classroom.  During remote learning instruction, students are expected to engage virtually in lessons that are scheduled during the same timeframe as students in class who are in-person; approximately 8:40 am - 2:30 pm on a Regular school day; approximately 8:40 am - 2:00 pm on an Early Dismissal school day. Teachers may provide students specific class times during the school day where they will be required to be attending class virtually through the teacher’s chosen online video conferencing platform.  Those arrangements will be shared through Google Classroom for each day.

ISBE has stated districts can be flexible in determining how to best meet the requirement in their own context by counting all learning activities toward the 5 clock hour expectation. Learning activities may include, but are not limited to, in-person instruction, the teacher delivering instruction via recorded video or synchronous platform, remote small group work via breakout room or conference call, independent/flexible student work time, and/or virtual/telephone teacher-student check-ins.

*Any student with individualized education plan (IEP) will be given special consideration and will be handled on a case by case basis.
