Santoku Keyboard Interest Check (NOW AVAILABLE)
The Santoku is now available for purchase. Please visit www.gestaltinput.com and take a look around! Thank you for considering the Santoku keyboard!

I'm leaving this Interest Check open just so you can provide feedback if you're interested.

The Santoku is a 40% column staggered keyboard. Some of its notable features include:
• A tightly integrated Pointing Stick (Trackpoint) with dedicated mouse buttons which are usable with either hand.
• The ability to split apart for use as a one piece board or split depending on your need and location.
• A rotary encoder in the style of a traditional mouse scroll wheel for scrolling through documents.
• An OLED Display to display the keyboard's status and keymaps.
• Open source QMK firmware so you can hack the keyboard to perform almost any way you like.

The final price is still being worked out. Please know that the Santoku will probably be more expensive than many ergo kits because of the large number of custom 3D printed parts and additional unusual hardware.

Please help me understand how I can make the Santoku as accessible as possible to you.

If you are interested in the Santoku or would like updates, please provide your email address.
Would you prefer to assemble as much as possible to keep costs as low as possible? Or would you prefer to have as much assembled as possible? *
The smallest electronics parts such as SMD diodes, resistors, capacitors, and FFC connectors are pre-soldered. However, large items such as switches, the rotary encoder, and microcontroller pins need soldered by the builder. There are numerous custom 3d printed parts that are unique to the Santoku. These parts may need glued or screwed together to make a complete build.
How much experience do you have with building keyboards or other electronics projects? *
What is your color preference for the primary color? (case, case parts, PCB) *
What is your color preference for the secondary color? (mouse buttons, nonslip padding on bottom) *
Are you familiar with using a Pointing Stick (Trackpoint) as an input method? *
Would you prefer to trim the keycaps yourself with a provided cutting jig (cheaper, more options) or would you prefer that the keycaps are precut (more expensive, fewer options)? *
The Pointing Stick on the Santoku fits in between four of the keycaps. Because of this, these caps need their corners trimmed. One option I am exploring is to supply blank keycaps that are pre-trimmed but they will be more expensive. Alternatively, a jig can be supplied as part of a kit so you can trim your own keycaps in the proper position using a Dremel or rotary tool.

If the keycaps are supplied with the kit, would you prefer keycaps with legends or without? (i.e. do you want your keycaps to have letters and symbols on them? Or do you want blank keycaps?) *
Do you have any additional feedback or unanswered questions?
Do you have strong preferences for the default keymap?
The Santoku is Powered By QMK firmware. Using QMK, you can change almost any aspect of your keyboard's behavior. However, if you have strong preferences for something in particular, this is where you can be heard.
