Swipe Out Hunger 2021-2022 Application
Hello! Thank you for showing interest in our organization, Swipe Out Hunger!
About us: Swipe Out Hunger was established here at UCLA in the Fall of 2009 in order to help combat food insecurity in Los Angeles and on-campus. Swipe Out Hunger hopes not only to feed people experiencing housing and food insecurity, but also to educate the students about the houselessness and hunger problem in Los Angeles, and what they can do to help.
How we work: at the end of the quarter, students can donate their unused meal swipes, which would otherwise go to waste, to Swipe Out Hunger. Our organization works with the ECRT to repurpose these swipes into meal vouchers for food insecure Bruins, snacks for the on-campus CPO Food Pantry, and quarterly events such as Sandwiches for Smiles. We also cook meals at local homeless shelters and attend weekly gleaning at local farmer's markets, where we collect and donate fresh produce. As of Spring 2017, UCLA has donated over $500,000 and 370,000 pounds of recovered produce towards fighting hunger on and off our campus.
