SY 25/26 WTU Open Enrollment for the Sick Parental Leave Banks

Each year, from June 1 through August 31, the Washington Teachers’ Union (WTU) conducts open enrollment for the Sick Leave Bank and the Parental (Maternity/Paternity) Leave Bank. During this period, current WTU bargaining unit members may enroll in, make changes to, or cancel their participation in either or both leave banks.

To participate in each leave bank, members are required to donate eight (8) hours of their annual sick leave accrual per bank, per school year. In return, members may become eligible to receive up to 240 hours (30 days) of leave under the following conditions:

  • Sick Leave Bank: For use during an approved continuous leave of absence or ADA leave from DCPS due to personal medical conditions, once personal sick leave has been exhausted.

  • Parental Leave Bank: For use to care for a newborn or in cases of adoption, following the exhaustion of personal sick leave.

Please note: There is a 90-day waiting period from the date of enrollment before benefits from either leave bank can be accessed.

For questions regarding leave bank participation or eligibility, please contact the WTU Membership and Benefits Team at leavebanks@wtulocal6.net.

Important: This enrollment applies only to the Sick Leave and Parental Leave Banks. It is not related to Dental or Vision benefits. If multiple enrollment submissions are received, the form with the most recent submission date will be used.
