Spring 2019 Girls Rock Band Experience Application
Last fall, the Eau Claire Music School partnered with Sawdust City Limits and the Music Education Fund to offer the first ever Girls Rock Band Experience in the area. It was an outstanding event and some of the participants even spun off their own band called Histrionic Creature!

Well, for round two we are putting together bands to perform at the brand new Great Big Hullabloo at the Pablo Center on June 1st.

The deadline to register is coming up fast (May 17th), so please this opportunity with others and encourage middle and high school girls to put in an application.

In the Girls Rock Band Experience, students will work with local musicians and educators to hone their skills and gain valuable experience working with other musicians to create a performance.

Performances: 11:45 am and 1:45 pm on June 1st at the Pablo Center

Middle School Band Rehearsals:
Monday, May 20th and 27th from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Eau Claire Music School

High School Band Rehearsals:
Thursday, May 23rd and 30th from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Eau Claire Music School

Cost:
$145 (need-based scholarships available upon request)
Tuition is not due until students are accepted to the program

Teachers:
Jill Heinke-Moen and Deirdre Jenkins

Who:
We seek to encourage, educate, and promote female musicians in the context of a music culture that has historically been male dominated. Enrollment in the Girls Rock Experience is open to individuals in 6th through 12th grade who self-identify as female, trans, and gender non-conforming. Vocalists and instrumentalists are invited to apply. While instruments such as drums, bass, guitar, and keyboard are typically associated with rock music, players of other instruments are welcome to apply as well (e.g. string, brass, and wind players.)

Audition:
Participants will be chosen on a variety of criteria, including their musical ability and the needs of the two bands.

Applicants should have confidence playing their instrument or singing since it will not be possible to teach the basics of technique. Auditions must be submitted by video by the May 17th application deadline. The video should include the applicant playing or singing a piece of music for at least 60 seconds. (The video may be recorded for the purpose of the submission or may be of a concert or other performance. It does not need to be professional quality.)
