The City of Markham is hosting its annual Remembrance Day Poetry Contest to give youth the opportunity to show their appreciation for Canadian soldiers and veterans. Winners will be given a $50 prize along with an award from the Mayor and City Councillors during the Remembrance Day Ceremony where winners will also be invited to present their poems.
This contest is open to students, who live or attend school in Markham, and in the following three categories: Grades 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. Participants must submit a poem that relates to theme of the 150th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mounted Policy (RCMP), Canada's First Armed Forces. There are no restrictions towards the form or word limit of the poem.
All poems must be submitted by Wednesday, November 1 at 8 PM. Following the final submission date, winners will be notified and invited to present at the ceremony.
The Remembrance Day Ceremony is on Friday, November 10, 2024 from 10 to Noon at the Markham Theatre.
