How does Dinner for 7 work?Sign up during July and August and you will be placed in a group of seven. A group organizer will contact you in early September, plan out the date and time for the first dinner and what each person should bring to share.
Groups will get together three times between September and March. A group organizer will plan and host the first dinner in their home and the group can decide if they want to rotate hosting the subsequent two dinners, meet at a restaurant, at the church Fellowship Hall, or meet again at the group organizers’ home.
Who cooks the meals? It depends. Groups can decide to meet at a restaurant but it might also be decided that ahost will provide the entrée, bread/rolls, and beverages (can assign others to assist if offering beer and/or wine) and everyone will bring a dish to share such as appetizers for 7, a salad or vegetable for 7, or a dessert for 7.
Why Seven? As a church that prides ourselves on our welcome to all, we want to make sure that singles are included so seven allows for couples and singles. Additionally, in the Bible, the number 7 is often found in contexts involving completeness or divine perfection.
Other important stuffThese dinners are a great time for adults to get to know each other in a casual setting outside of church. Each group can decide what works best for them--if childcare should be arranged or if children should be included. Serving alcoholic beverages is left to the discretion of each group and each host. A substitute list will be maintained and each guest is responsible for obtaining a substitute if not able to attend. This is not a gourmet dinner club, but an opportunity to strengthen and deepen the relationships among those who are part of Swiss Church family.
