Improving patient experiences by improving provider-provider communication (SF General Hospital : 6C)

Inter-professional communication has been identified as a critical component of safe and effective patient care. A consultation communicates a clinical request between providers and/or among clinical services for advice in the management of a particular patient. A well-executed consultation creates the grounds for optimal patient care. Precipitously, sub-optimal communication results in costly medical errors, patient dissatisfaction, and delays in treatment.
