What is AVID?
AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination. It is a regularly scheduled elective class at Placer High School that
prepares students in the middle, with academic potential, for success in advanced high school classes and in college. AVID is a four year elective program. Freshman AVID is a one semester course in the fall paired with an academic subject in the spring. Placer High School is the only certificated high school AVID program in the Placer Union High School District and the Auburn area.

THE MISSION OF PHS AVID
The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, especially students in the middle with academic potential, capable of completing a college preparatory path:

♦ will succeed in the most rigorous curriculum,

♦ will enter mainstream activities of the school,

♦ will increase their enrollment in four-year colleges.

   AVID Facts

♦ Placer High School AVID will be starting its 16th year of AVID

the fall of 2024.

♦ Placer High School has talented AVID trained staff.

♦ 90% of all AVID students complete their A-G entrance

requirements to a U.C. or California State University.

♦ Students receive academic support from tutors

through collaborative tutorial groups.

♦ Students receive academic instruction in writing note-
taking, studying, test-taking, and organizing.

♦ Students are motivated to pursue academic excellence through goal setting, rigorous classes, cultural and college field trips, classroom AVID team building.
