You are cordially invited to attend LILAC’s final professional development and networking event of the 2025-26 school year. Please join us and fellow colleagues from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Captain Bill’s Restaurant, located at 122 Ocean Avenue, Bay Shore, NY 11706. For additional directions, please call Captain Bill’s directly at (631) 665-6262. A three-course lunch will be served. During this professional development and networking event, we will be honoring the local New York State English Council Educators of Excellence and our Kenneth Gambone Writing Contest winners. Additionally, Pete Nasta from Perma-Bound will be sponsoring this event.

Our featured presenter is Shannon Milligan Urbancik. Shannon is a local elementary school teacher and the author of the book I Hear Her Say whose message to young readers is that each of us is unique in our own way. The words we speak are influential to our own minds and those around us. Join us as she shares her journey as a mother, teacher, writer and published author in her workshop, "Writing to Empower Minds: Self-reflection as a Writing Tool."

We hope you will join us to celebrate our talented student writers and local NYSEC award recipients, to be inspired by Ms. Milligan Urbancik's presentation, and to exchange instructional ideas with colleagues from across Long Island. Pricing for this event will be $50.00 for LILAC members and $55.00 for non-members.
