Our Mission

The Austin Green Team is a volunteer organization that builds, maintains, and supports community gardens and community beautification in the Austin neighborhood. For almost thirty years, the Austin Green Team has also managed two greenhouses located in the Austin Career & Educational Academy High School, propagating and growing plants that help maintain the community gardens that the Austin Green Team oversees. The purpose of the Austin Green Team is to enhance the quality of life issues by working collaboratively with other community stakeholders in beautifying the Austin Community.

About Our Gardens

Currently, there are six gardens that the Green Team manages throughout the Austin community.  The gardens are as follows:

We Love Our Volunteers!!!
We welcome the community, non-profit organizations, small groups and companies looking for team building projects to join us as we work to create a safe and peaceful community in Austin.  We also welcome donations toward our projects.  You can find a list of items on our website at www.austingreenteam.org.  Please complete this volunteer application so that we can learn a little more about you.  

Besides volunteering in our gardens, the Austin Green Team would like for you to enjoy the garden as well!  We invite you to join us at some of our community garden events, "Movies In The Garden," and our annual Garden Tour.  Feel free to take a stroll through the gardens!  This year, our summer events will be held at Rosie's Peace In The Valley Garden, 168 N. Laramie Avenue, Chicago, IL 60644.  We look to see you there!

What is required to volunteer?
Safety is our priority and we want you to enjoy your time while working in the gardens.  The recommended attire in the gardens are the following:  Gloves, rubber boots or shoes, long sleeves, hat to protect you from the sun, long pants, sun screen to protect your skin.  Remember to bring water, especially for hot days.  

What not to wear while working in the gardens:  Flip flops or sandals, short shorts, halter tops, and slippers.  There are rocks in the garden and you can possibly stub your toe, cut your feet while walking in the gardent.

Gloves:  If you do not have a pair we will be able to accommodate.

Garden Tools:  While we have supplies of garden tools, we can never have enough and we welcome you to bring tools to help.
