LIFE BIOBEST - Bio-waste treatment input quality survey - English

In the scope of the LIFE BIOBEST project (lifebiobest.eu), the European Compost Network (ECN) is preparing a guideline for recommendations on quality standards for bio-waste entering recycling facilities. We are asking local authorities and treatment plant operators for their support in answering this survey. It addresses the quality of input material sent for biological treatment (Anaerobic digestion, composting or combination of both), including acceptable limit values.

In the survey, input quality refers to the share of physical macro-impurities such as plastics, glass or metals. The term contaminants refers to the abundance of chemical components (elements, molecules) that have an influence on the final product quality, e.g., heavy metals.

The survey will take a maximum of 5 - 15 minutes of your time.

The deadline to answer the survey is 12.07.2024.

Which country do you report for?
*
Please specify the jurisdiction, entity, or region that you represent! (e.g., the name of the entity you work for or the name of the treatment plant) *
What type of treatment does the bio-waste you manage undergo?
*
Optional: How much of separately collected bio-waste (either kitchen waste or mixed biowaste, excluding separately collected garden waste) do you currently treat in your facility? Give your answer in tons per year!
Optional: How much of reject (material technically removed during processing) do you generate annually as an effect of the level of impurities (plastics, glass, metals etc.) in your feedstock material? Give your answer in tons per year!

What do you think is important to achieve high input quality? More than one selection is possible.

Required
For the country/region you represent: Is there a national/regional obligation to assess the input quality of biowaste entering a recycling facility? *
