Volunteer Opportunities for PTA Committees
The following volunteer opportunities are available for school-wide activities, such as the PC Media Center or Welcome Desk; International Travelers Week or Walk to School Days.
ONGOING INITIATIVES
The following are ongoing PTA-led initiatives that comprise many events and activities throughout the year.
Primary Campus Media Center Volunteers
Assist the PC Media Specialist with such tasks as reading to students, shelving books, or managing check out. Shifts range from 35-90 minutes. Dates and frequency are flexible.
Primary Campus School Store
The school store carries basic school supplies and is open on Fridays 7:25-8:00 a.m. This is great volunteer opportunity for working parents! Dates and frequency are flexible.
Primary Campus Welcome Desk
Seeking smiling faces to assist our school secretaries! Answer phone calls, greet visitors, and make deliveries to classrooms during 2 hour shifts: 7:55-10:00, 10:00-12:15, and 12:15-2:15. Volunteers are asked to consider at least 2 shifts/month.

Help with our new outdoor learning spaces
Multicultural Affairs
This committee celebrates Sarah Smith's diverse student body through events, activities, and initiatives designed to support our IB curriculum. Committee members help plan, promote, and implement these programs. Volunteers are needed at various times during the year based on their programming. Committee chairs will contact volunteer members when their help is needed.
Sarah Smith Education Foundation Annual Fund Campaign
The Sarah Smith Education Foundation (SSEF) Annual Fund raises more than $200,000 per year to ensure the high quality of curriculum at Sarah Smith. Volunteers work with the Annual Fund Chairs to encourage participation in this important fundraising effort. Volunteers are needed at various times during the year based on their programming. Committee chairs will contact volunteer members when their help is needed.
SPECIAL EVENTS
The following committees need volunteers at various times during the year based on their programming. Chairs will contact members when their help is needed. The date of the event, if it is known, is indicated; however, committee members may meet frequently before the actual event.
Wellness Committee/Walk to School Day
The Wellness Committee focuses on promoting healthy behaviors and attitudes school-wide. Put on your walking shoes and help plan International Walk to School Day (October 4, 2017). Volunteers promote the event, encourage participation, schedule day-of volunteers, and help along the route the day of the event. Volunteers can also help with other wellness initiatives throughout the school year.
Fall Book Fair (Dates: TBA)
Love books? Help out with the Fall Scholastic Book Fair. Volunteers will be needed for set-up, sales, floaters, and takedown.
Fall Festival (Saturday, October 21, 2017)
It’s not officially fall until this fun for the entire family event happens at Sarah Smith. We need volunteers to help with all aspects of this annual Festival, which offers food, fun, and games for everyone. The committee is responsible for planning the food, activities, volunteers, promotion, set-up, and takedown.
Bingo Night (Friday, February 2, 2018)
Be a winner by helping plan this annual family fun event. The committee handles publicity, prize solicitation, concessions, RSVPs, volunteers, set-up, and takedown.
Spring Book Fair (Dates: TBA)
Love Books? Take 2! Help out with the Spring Scholastic Book Fair. Volunteers will be needed for set-up, sales, floaters, and takedown.
Kindergarten Round-Up (April 20, 2018)
Yee Haw! We’ve got a herd of incoming kindergarteners and their parents visiting for a tour and information session, and we need to show them how great Sarah Smith is! Volunteers help plan and execute this event, including set-up, tour guides, information tables, and takedown.
International Travelers (May 2018)
It will take an army of volunteers to transform Sarah Smith into Italy, where our students will travel during IT Week 2018. This program is unique to Sarah Smith and complements our IB curriculum. Volunteers are needed to plan activities, art projects, decorations, programs, food, and the annual Peace Pole dedication.
Staff Appreciation (February 19-27, 2018)
Help show our teachers how much they mean to us. Committee members plan and coordinate special treats for faculty and staff.
Science Night (January 2018)
Help plan and coordinate a science night for our Sarah Smith community.
Sarah Smith Work Day (Sunday, October 15, 2017)
Making Sarah Smith beautiful takes work! We need parents to grab a hammer or gardening gloves and help spruce up our facilities and grounds. Students welcome.
