Volunteer to phonebank for COVID-19 relief in Navajo Nation
The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated Navajo Nation/Dinétah, the largest Indigenous reservation in the U.S. by land area and population. The destructive legacies of settler colonialism and extractive capitalism pushed the Navajo Nation's death rate far above that of the rest of the country a few times in 2020; only several days ago did the federal government approve aid to the embattled reservation. As of this writing, 1 in 173 Navajo residents on the reservation has perished from the coronavirus.
Join a coalition of DSA chapters (San Francisco, Phoenix, Santa Fe, and East Bay chapters in addition to Ithaca DSA ecosocialists) in phone banking to raise funds toward existing grassroots mutual aid relief networks in Navajo Nation. Our next phone bank will be Sunday, March 21 from 2-5pm PT / 3-6 MT / 4-7 CT / 5-8 ET.
We’ll begin the phone bank with a discussion about how we in DSA can engage in even more impactful work towards decolonization beyond this campaign, as well as live up to our endorsement of the Red Deal. Past speakers include Brandon Benallie of K'é Infoshop and former CA State Senate candidate/SF DSA member Jackie Fielder.
