Registration Form: AcadMathSci ECM/ECMS Consultation Engagement Event

AcadMathSci will be holding an additional Consultation Event that will be open to all but targeting in particular Early Career Mathematical Scientists including teachers and educators, practitioners and academics spanning the breadth of the mathematical scientists (ECM*s).

This event will be virtual and will be held on Monday 19th June, 7-8pm. In addition to a brief presentation on the progress of the Academy to date, there will be breakout sessions and the opportunity to share your views with key members of the AcadMathSci's Executive Team and Advisory Board. Joining instructions will be sent out on the morning of the event.

We want you to drive the conversation at this event. To get you thinking about the Academy and what it could do for you, we have provided the following prompts:
  • How will the Academy support the people pipeline and promote retention of teachers and educators
  • How will the Academy improve widening participation units across the country?
  • How will the Academy address the imbalance in the funding of mathematics compared to other physical sciences?
  • What type of employability resources will the Academy provide for ECM*s?
  • The Academy has articulated the benefits of engaging with practitioners, educators and teachers, and academics. How does it plan on bringing together early career members of these communities?
  • The Academy has expressed a desire to challenge the misconception and stereotype of mathematical sciences as a hard and exclusively solitary activity. How does it plan to do this? How can I support the Academy in this endeavour?
  • How does the Academy envision running events for ECM*s? How will these differ from events offered by other Learned Societies?
  • The Academy has expressed a desire to promote mathematics as a collaborative and social activity, accessible to all those who are curious, find it fulfilling, and have an interest in it. How does it plan to do this? How can I support the Academy in this endeavour?

If you wish to submit questions in advance, please email them to James Van Yperen, a member of the AcadMathSci ECMSs Workstream on: J.Vanyperen@sussex.ac.uk.
