Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW is a food label for meat, eggs, dairy, and fiber products that come from farm animals raised to the highest animal welfare and environmental standards.
AGW audits, certifies and supports independent farmers raising their animals according to the highest animal welfare standards, outdoors on pasture or range. Called a “badge of honor for farmers” and the “gold standard,” Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW has come to be the most highly regarded food label when it comes to animal welfare, pasture-based farming, and sustainability.
At the workshop, we'll learn why Against the Grain became to be Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW and what it means for their farm — record keeping systems and everyday practices. We'll also learn what an audit is like and how AGW supports participating farms and raises awareness with the larger public about why ethical meat and livestock matters. Against the Grain pastures broilers, pigs, and cattle under Certified Animal Welfare Approved by AGW certification, and we'll visit those animals to see the practices first hand. We'll also hear from other area Certified Animal Welfare Approved producers, like Dave Walker of Daffodil Spring Farm, located in Valle Crucis, NC and Melinda Brown of Never Ending Farm in Sugar Grove, NC.
Time: 3:30 PM Location: 619 Camp Joy Rd. Zionville, NC
Please feel free to bring a potluck or covered dish to share. Because this farm has livestock, do not wear shoes that have come near your or others' livestock — make sure your shoes are clean.
