Dyslexia Signs
Dyslexia is also called a learning disability or a reading disorder. Common red flags help to alert teachers and parents to a child who may be at risk for dyslexia. Some of these red flags include the following:
Needs help saying or writing the alphabet in order
Forgets the sounds that letters make, or confuses letters with similar sounds
Spells the same word multiple times, substitutes letters when spelling, or misspells own name
Cannot hear or understand words that rhyme or substitutes short words (eg., in, an, on) when reading
Has a family member who struggled to read, began speaking later than expected, and/or forgets previously learned words
Cries, protests, becomes disruptive, or complains of illness when asked to read or write
Has strong creative, artistic, inventive, or athletic skills
Choose the option that best fits your circumstances
I have or know of a 4-6 year old who displays one or more of the red flags above and might need to be screened for dyslexia
I have or know of a 7-13 year old who displays one or more of the red flags above or already has a dyslexia diagnosis
I am an educator who has students who display these red flags
