Dear Parents and Young Scientists,
Your child has the opportunity to prepare and display a science project at the Lincoln School Science Fair that will be held on February 29th, 2024.
A Science Fair project is a great learning experience. It gives students the chance to think and work independently, develop/define individual science interests, and engage in critical thinking. It is also an excellent opportunity for students to learn and understand the scientific process.
This science fair project is one that will be worked on at home where students may work individually or in a group of two.
We encourage everyone to participate no matter how large or small the project may be. You can even present if your experiment doesn't work! The important element is to have fun and to learn at the same time!
Each entry will be judged on February 29th, 2024 during the school day. All participants will be acknowledged for their effort with a ribbon. Special ribbons will be awarded to students in grades 3, 4 and 5 (top scored projects only) who will advance to the regional competition at Minnesota State University, Mankato on April 27th, 2024. (K, 1, and 2 students will ONLY present at Lincoln).***Students may pair with another student in another grade. However, if a student in a group is in K, 1, or 2 the project will be judged using the k-2 score sheet and will not be eligible for regionals. ***
In order for us to be able to plan accordingly for the science fair, we ask that you please fill out this entry form by Friday, January 26th to plan for judges.
After filling in your registration, please stop by the office and pick up your science fair journal. Science fair boards ($3.50) and headers ($1.50) will also be available to purchase in the office. Please make sure to read through ALL of the materials sent home as all pertinent forms and information will be included.
This year we have the option for students to complete their journal online. They can create an online journal, using the template that is provided, or students can use their own creative imagination to put together their own journal using Google Slides. Students are still required to have all elements of the scientific method listed in their presentation.
Students will bring in projects on Wednesday, February 28th to the library from 7:30AM-8:00AM, or from 2:40PM-4:00PM. They will be judged during the next school day. Your student will leave their classroom for a short time to show the judges their projects, answer questions, and then once they are done they will go back to class.
Please include an email you check regularly as this will be the only way we will have to communicate to you about important reminders, information, or changes.
