Cornerstone Peer Mentors are facilitators leading and mentoring first-year and transfer students throughout their Cornerstone experience. Peer Mentors will support students in reflecting and discussing their Georgetown experience with a peer group. Peer Mentors will also encourage new students through identifying their own individual future goals, challenges, and action steps in a small-group setting. The goal is that through the support of a Peer Mentor, new students will have the support, skills, and resources to find their foundation within a social community context.
Fall 2019 Cornerstone weekly dinners will start on the week of October 14 and end the week of December, 2019.
Peer Mentor responsibilities include:--Hosting a weekly dinner for their assigned group of mentees (dinner paid for by the Cornerstone Initiative). This includes set-up, clean-up, and meal management--Facilitating conversations on topics related to college transition and life at Georgetown, especially in the context of building community and finding a social foundation on campus--Monitoring the growth of new students in their group--Participating in four training sessions before Cornerstone begins and weekly team meetings throughout the program
To be a peer mentor, applicants must:--Have completed at least 2 full semesters at Georgetown University--Be available for a 30-minute interview--Hold Thursdays from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm for four trainings from September 19 - October 10--Have investment and passion for facilitating conversation and guiding first-year and transfer students--Be available for a weekly 30-minute mentor team meeting (Thursdays at 5 pm)--Be available for weekly dinner with their mentee group--Demonstrate an ability to be organized, approachable, and timely--Be in good standing with academics and conduct at Georgetown University
