Dismantling Racism Prayer Gatherings - Winter -Spring 2022
You are warmly invited to join us on 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 1:30-2:30pm EST, for our Dismantling Racism Prayer Gatherings.
Each month we will engage a "dismantling" theme. On 2nd Tuesdays, there will be a large group teaching and intercession. The teaching will be recorded and sent out to those unable to attend. On the 4th Tuesday, we will further process and pray in large and small groups, creating catalytic, prayer-centered encouragement as we seek to live into what God is calling us to, individually and together.
2022 Dismantling Themes:
January 11 and 25 - The impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's teachings, reflected upon by Rev. Kelvin Spooner, moderator, RCA Commission on Race and Ethnicity and pastor, Cambria Hts. Community Church, Queens, NY
February 8 and 22 - Black History Month
March 8 and 22 - Women's History Month; the intersectionality of race and gender justice
April and May - TBA
This prayer movement is led by God's Holy Spirit and a diverse group of committed leaders, including Rev. Nancy Boote and Dr. Micheal Edwards, co-chairs, who desire to break down internal and external systems of oppression of all kinds, center Black lives in this season particularly, and live into Jesus' call to love one another. This prayer movement was borne out of the Dismantling Racism ministry initiative begun in June 2020, when the Rev. Dr. Denise Kingdom Grier introduced the 1 Cor. 13 Project to us. Learn more here:
These virtual prayer gatherings are an interactive time of praying and sharing around the hopes and challenges of engaging this important work, personally and communally. We courageously embrace the promise that with God, it is not impossible for the Reformed Church in America and our denominational siblings to experience deep heart transformation leading to true, authentic repentance, emerging ready to seek a "more excellent way" forward. ALL ARE WELCOME!

Anyone seeking to seriously engage the topic of dismantling racism is welcome for these Tuesday virtual prayer gatherings - we are on the journey together and know God is with us, even in the midst. To honor the process as well as the other participants, please plan to join from a quiet space and be as fully present as possible during the session. Please feel free to invite like-minded people to join us.
