Volunteers will spend approximately 20-30 minutes at a Chicago public school in Hyde Park/Kenwood, reading to small groups in the youngest classrooms, (pre-k or kindergarten) followed by a tour of the school. Volunteers will read the children’s book, We All Sing with the Same Voice, a favorite of Jane Averill, Hyde Park resident, long-time educator, and HPKCAC member.
The HPKCAC will provide a liaison at each school as a contact person for the volunteers, who will contact you with details about the time and location.
We need donations to reach our goal of providing a copy of the book to each child who is read to that day. We are partnering with 57th Street Books and we would like to raise $2500 to cover the cost of 500 books. Donations for the Jane Averill Community Reading Day can be made via cash or check at 57th Street Books (1301 E. 57th St.).
You can donate online at: https://www.semcoop.com/jane-averill-community-reading-day
It is our hope we will recruit community members beyond those folks who are already volunteering in the schools.
Please sign-up below to volunteer. THANK YOU!
