Los Ayudantes Volunteer Application
Thank you for your interest in volunteering online this year with Los Ayudantes! We truly appreciate it and look forward to meeting you (online!)

As directed by the teachers, Los Ayudantes tutors work with students on reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary through one-on-one assistance with short articles, texts, or other assigned reading. Our volunteers also tend to become trusted, adult mentors for the students who can help the students with general concerns, organization, and time planning skills.

Please note that we require a full, school-year commitment, as this provides consistency in the students' lives, but we understand family vacations and other issues arise. The most important thing is to communicate with your teacher and the Program Director if you will need to be absent, and do so ahead of time.

During the 2021-22 school year, we are back in school but will likely be tutoring outdoors at picnic tables. There may also be an opportunity tutor virtually. Our middle school program is located at McKinley Institute of Technology (450 Duane, Redwood City) and Kennedy Middle School (2521 Goodwin Ave, Redwood City). If you have a preference of locations, please indicate on the form below.

Next Steps & Any Questions?
Once we receive this form, we will send you our tutor training document and set up an interview. The document provides a background on Los Ayudantes, provides training on tutoring the students, and walks you through the steps you will need to go through to come onboard. Per Redwood City School District regulations, all classroom volunteers will need to have a "LiveScan" fingerprint background check (performed at local UPS Stores), provide a copy of their driver's license and sign a Technology User Form (for online tutoring). If in person, they also require a negative TB test assessment (from your doctor, US Healthworks in San Carlos, or UPS Store Clinic or Video Clinic call). Unfortunately, if you have a fingerprinting and TB test on file at another school district, it cannot be transferred to Redwood City School District. We will reimburse all volunteers for their fingerprinting and TB test expenses. (But you may also choose to donate the cost of doing so.) Please save your receipts if you would like to be reimbursed. Do you have any other questions? Feel free to use the space provided below.
A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
