This is the second Bad Times Disco-led fundraiser, with the first edition raising more than 35k HKD for three local grassroots fundraisers working with impacted communities during the second wave of COVID-19 in India. We do not view our fundraisers as charity, but rather as community organizing in solidarity with self-led community-centered groups and movements.
Bad Times Disco & No Thrillsss are fundraising together for ATIS (HK/Philippines), a migrant domestic worker-led network working on advocacy and direct aid both in Hong Kong and the Philippines. As of 29 December, we have expanded this fundraiser to direct funds towards on the ground relief efforts for typhoon relief in the Philippines, led by Kids for Kids PH.
ABOUT ATIS:
In Hong Kong, migrant domestic workers are often either invisibilized or stigmatized, and their systemically underpaid and underregulated work remains a long struggle for labor rights. Migrant domestic workers' groups have organized for themselves for decades in Hong Kong, fighting for better wages, fair working conditions, and raising awareness about abusive employment agencies and loan sharks. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these same workers have also been providing direct aid to their families and other affected communities in their home countries. We are proud to organize this event in solidarity with ATIS. The Abra Tinguian Ilocano Society (ATIS) is a federation composed of migrant workers from 15 municipalities of Abra, a province in the Cordillera Region, Philippines.
"As a progressive federation we are undertaking massive education to strengthen our rights & empowerment, campaign, solidarity and welfare services for our members in HK as well as our communities back home in partnership with our ATIS Abra Migrants Desk. We have launched the We Care We Share Program since the COVID outbreak. This is to provide relief aides for less fortunate migrants (not given masks and sanitizers by their employers) and for our compatriots back home who are not being reached with government relief aides." Simultaneously organizing for labor rights, community care, and direct aid in both Hong Kong and the Philippines, ATIS is a migrant-worker led network that shows us the possibility of a society where caretakers are also supported, treated fairly, and taken care of.
21 December 2021 update:
Super typhoon Odette has created an emergency situation in affected areas in the Philippines, so we have extended this fundraiser until January 1st in order to divert resources to collectives and organizations working on the ground for typhoon relief. You now have an additional option to donate to Kids for Kids PH, a youth-led collective doing climate advocacy and coordinating on-the-ground relief efforts.
29 December 2021 update:
All donations will now go towards Kids for Kids PH, a youth-led collective working on climate advocacy in the Philippines coordinating on the ground relief efforts for areas affected by recent typhoons.
We will provide full transparency about the money collected in a google doc and on Instagram as we did in the last mutual aid fundraiser (
