Additionally, students’ education quality is improved when they attend school in facilities that are well-maintained and updated. Our students deserve the opportunity to learn in facilities that are modern and that maximize their educational experiences.
Salina Public Schools is conducting a survey to get the community’s opinion on what they would like to see in our upcoming school bond proposal.
The Salina Board of Education is trying to decide between a series bond of 5, 7 or 10 years. The 5-year bond would amount to approximately $2,350,000 to spend, the 7-year bond would amount to $3,200,000 to spend and a 10-year bond would amount to $4,400,000 to spend.
We will present 2 bond proposals on which the community will vote:
1) to upgrade current facilities and add new facilities and curriculum 2) to upgrade transportation.
I and the board have listed some essential items on the survey that need to be addressed due to our facilities’ aging and overall safety. We’ve also listed some items that we’ve discussed and determined are major needs to improve instruction and classroom curriculum. Additional items administrators and staff provided to us.
The transportation bond of $600,000 is needed for the following reasons:
We currently have 4 route buses that are over 10 years old and need to be replaced. We also have an activity bus that is over 10 years old and is used for every activity we attend. Our two school vans are also over 10 years old and have 150,000 miles on them.
We are asking that you please look over the list and rank those you feel are of most importance. We also have a section to list additional items you feel need to be added.
We hope all Salina community members will take part in this survey to communicate what you would like to see done to make our schools better places for our students and community.
