About the Program

Youth in Motion is a free, hands-on filmmaking and storytelling program created to amplify the voices of young people through the art of visual storytelling. Designed for youth entering high school to current college students, the program offers a unique opportunity to learn the basics of filmmaking — from writing and storyboarding to shooting, editing, and screening your own original short film.

Over the course of the program, participants will:

  • Work in small teams to develop and produce a short film.

  • Learn from professional filmmakers, artists, and mentors through interactive workshops.

  • Gain experience with camera equipment, editing software, and storytelling tools.

  • Explore themes like identity, culture, community, and social change.

  • Present their completed work at a public screening event for friends, family, and the community.

No prior experience in filmmaking is necessary — just a passion for creativity, storytelling, and working with others. This is a space for emerging voices to shine.

Expectations & Commitment

  • Contribute to weekly learning modules (online, asynchronous)

  • Attend in-person workshop sessions (six meetings over the course of the program)

  • Participate actively in film productions and discussions

  • Respect and support your fellow participants

  • Bring curiosity, openness, and a willingness to learn
