Rice Hillel Shabbat Hosting Lab Application
Shabbat Hosting Lab (SHL) invites students to develop confidence and knowledge surrounding Shabbat rituals, to design and execute a Shabbat skill set, and to become emboldened hosts, capable of facilitating a table experience in their own living spaces that is informed and inspired by Jewish wisdom and tradition.

SHL Fellows will participate in 10 weeks of learning and host two Shabbat gatherings for their peers.

What, if anything, feels like an obstacle to deepening your own Shabbat practice at this point in your life? *
The following list contains skills and attributes that Shabbat Hosting Lab aims to impart to Fellows by the end of the fellowship. Your answers have *no impact* on your SHL application, or your qualifications as a potential SHL Fellow! Please answer honestly and from the heart. (We ask these questions so that we can be conscientious of creating dynamic, pluralistic, and accessible communities of learners:) *

I am confident leading Shabbat dinner rituals
I am confident leading Jewish rituals (outside of Shabbat dinner)
I see myself as leader within my Jewish community
I am a Jewish learner
I am a person with a personal Shabbat practice
One aspect of SHL is the requirement to host 2 separate Shabbat gatherings in your home or community space for at least 8 of your friends or acquaintances. How confident do you feel that you’ll be able to recruit at least 8 friends per SHL Shabbat gathering? *
Which, if any of these, have you participated in previously? (There are no "right" answers here! We ask to learn more about the background of SHL applicants in terms of their previous affiliation with organized Jewish life!) Please check all that apply: *

SHL is a powerful Fellowship experience where you will learn, connect, and grow. And, all Fellows are expected to take their responsibilities within the fellowship seriously. Fellows are expected to:

1. Attend 10 weeks of in-person sessions

2. Attend 1 Shabbat gathering hosted by Kenny

3. Host 2 Shabbat gatherings for your peers

Can you commit to these expectations?

*

Should you be accepted to the program, do you have any dietary restrictions? (We'll provide a pizza dinner at the beginning of each session.)

Rice Hillel and/or Hillel International may use photographs/quotes from my participation in SHL for marketing and promotional materials.

In addition to occasional emails from the SHL team, would you be interested in receiving emails about future Jewish opportunities for young adults from Hillel's funders?
*
What, if anything, can we do to ensure that SHL meets your access needs? (We will do our very best to accommodate, but cannot guarantee that 100% of needs can be met.)
