Name

I WILL REDUCE WASTE

I will avoid using disposable items in the office, at dining facilities, in my dorm, or at home. Instead I will use reusable flatware and dishware whenever possible or hire a caterer that provides them. I will properly sort my waste, composting and recycling when possible.

According to the Clean Air Council, Americans throw out enough forks, spoons, paper, and plastic cups each year to circle the equator 300 times.

I WILL SKIP THE STUFF

I will commit to skipping the additional condiments, napkins, plastics and items that would otherwise be unused or placed in the trash. I will opt out of the extra cutlery, napkins, straws, condiments, and single-use straws.

In the U.S., 561 billion disposable food service items are used annually, resulting in 4.9 million tons of waste. Americans use more than 36 billion utensils and as many as 142 billion straws each year.

I WILL REDUCE FOOD WASTE

I will do my best to reduce my food waste in dining facilities and at home by not taking more than I can eat and saving my leftovers for later.

According to a study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, about 96 billion pounds of food goes to waste every year in the United States. This requires energy to create wasted food, and it requires additional fossil fuels for transportation and disposal.

I WILL SORT WASTE CORRECTLY

I will commit to separating my trash correctly in self-serve restaurants where I am asked to clean as I go.

The United Nations cites waste management as an essential part of their Sustainable Development Goals because poor waste segregation contributes to air pollution and water and soil contamination.

I WILL CHOOSE GREENER TRANSPORTATION

As much as possible, I will walk, take a scooter, bike, take public transportation, or carpool to get to, around and between the Riverwalk District, or my local area.

I WILL TELL 3 FRIENDS

I will ask three of my friends or co-workers to take the pledge!
