NWSA 2026-2027 Advanced Coursework Commitment Form

Congratulations on enrolling in at least one Advanced Placement (AP) course this year. You join high school students around the world who take advanced courses and exams to challenge themselves, explore their interests, and earn college credit and placement.

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) has currently appropriated funds to pay for AP, Cambridge, and IB exams for students who are enrolled in the corresponding advanced level course(s).

All students enrolled in AP classes are required to take the corresponding exam per the CMS Board of Education Policy A-TST/R. The policy states that:

A student enrolled in an AP course must take the AP examination offered by the College Board for the particular course in which the student was enrolled. Students who do not take the required AP examination must take a teacher-provided comprehensive examination for the course.

As provided in Section A, above, and in Regulation A-GRA/R, beginning with the 2015/16 school year, a student’s grade on the teacher-provided comprehensive examination shall count as 20% of the student’s final course grade.

As provided in Regulation A-GRA/R, grades in AP courses for students who take the corresponding AP exam will be calculated according to the formula:  Semester 1 (50.00%) + Semester 2 (50.00%) =  final grade. 

A student who takes the AP examination may choose to take the teacher-provided comprehensive examination.   If a student chooses to take the teacher-provided exam, this exam will count as 20% of the student’s final grade.

Exams will not be rescheduled and a cancellation fee will be charged if students do not have all required materials on test day. This includes but is not limited to a fully charged chromebook and test login information.  *
The College Board provides reduced exam fees for eligible students with financial need, including:
-in households participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
-Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
-Medicaid benefits
-unhoused, migrant, runaway, or in foster care
-enrolled in a federally funded Head Start Program
