Join the Tending the Soil Zine Club from wherever you are!
Do you want to participate in the Tending The Soil Zine Club but you are not in Kampala, Nairobi, Mumbai or Yogyakarta?

Start a Zine Club of your own! Join us online by yourself or gather some friends and explore how zine-making can help us collectively think through the many challenges faced by artists, cultural workers, and all those who believe a better world is possible.

This first edition of Zine Club was developed as part of a pilot project of the soon to be launched AC School. This Zine Club will be a series of 8 zine-making sessions on organising towards a better world. Centred around Tending the Soil, a zine by Ricardo Levins Morales; each session will explore a different lesson in organising for social change, and use the prompts in the zine as a jumping off point to consider what each lesson can look like in our local context. Sessions will take place every last Friday of the month excluding in December.

The first of these 8 sessions will take place on Friday 26th October at 2pm EAT simultaneously at the 32° East Art Centre in Kampala, in Bombay with Bombay Underground @bombayunderground, Nairobi with Cheche Books @chechebooks and Yogyakarta with our Arts Collaboratory @arts_collab partner KUNCI Study Forum and Collective @cikunci.

Sessions will begin with a collective reading of the designated chapter, then a sharing of the prompt questions of the session that serve as inspiration for the zine making that session. Participants will be encouraged to write, draw, collage, stitch -- any creative response that emerges from the prompt. By joining us online, you'll be a part of the collective reading and hear recaps of the discussions from each hub. For the offline section, we encourage you to have your own materials for zine making and create something while reflecting on the prompts/hosting your own discussion with a few friends. We'll also share a link for you to upload your creations that will form part of a collective zine.

For October, we'll begin with Lesson 1: A 2nd Grade Liberation Programme
