Tithe, which is an old word meaning “1/10th,” is defined as the first 10% of a person’s income that is to be given back to God through the local church. This idea of giving the first 10% is taught throughout the entire Bible. When we give our tithe, we express worship in a real and tangible way by showing God that He is first in our lives.

Tithing is our way of giving God our thanks for His blessings, demonstrating our trust in His ability to provide and care for us, while allowing us to be part of the most important thing—what Jesus Himself said was what we all should be doing: spreading the Good News around the world.

You can find more about this idea of tithing by reading these passages from the Bible. Check out: Leviticus 27:30, Proverbs 3:9-10, Malachi 3:6-10, Matthew 6:19-24 and 1 Corinthians 16:1-2.
